Each model is rigged from deck level up, very much like the original ship would have been rigged. Not simply to do as they did, but with the purpose of creating the correct tension and set up an equilibrium of the triangular forces to create the right attitude and support to the spars. Forces at scale are quite a bit different, but the concept is still similar.
